With               the               current               downturn               in               the               economic               cycle               many               college               age               students               are               deciding               whether               or               not               to               pursue               higher               education,               and               if               they               choose               to               pursue               higher               education,               which               major               will               they               choose.

This               article               will               take               a               look               at               5               different               recession               proof               college               majors               that               will               always               be               in               demand,               what               jobs               the               graduate               can               get               with               the               major               and               average               pay               scale.

1.

Economics
               Economics               as               a               major               is               one               of               the               most               stable               and               high               paying               majors               for               any               college               graduate.

Economics               majors               study               models               which               look               at               consumer               spending               habits               with               math               and               social               behaviors.

This               is               a               very               exciting               major               that               will               always               have               job               openings               as               financial               managers,               economists               (with               grad               school),               retail               managers,               finical               consultants,               stock               brokers,               and               many               others.

Economics               majors               have               the               option               of               going               to               grad               school               or               even               law               school               which               would               translate               in               tremendous               success               for               aspiring               students.

According               to               www.vanderbilt.edu               the               average               starting               salary               for               an               economics               major               in               2007               was               $48,483.

Mechanical               Engineering
               Mechanical               engineering               average               slightly               above               economics               for               starting               salaries,               ranging               around               $50,000-55,000.

Mechanical               engineering               is               recession               proof               because               many               different               establishments               will               always               need               engineers               to               help               with               expansion               and               building               of               new               infrastructures.

Although               this               recession               has               hurt               the               salaries               of               mechanical               engineers               the               job               expectancy               is               still               expected               to               grow               with               higher               salaries.

Engineering               is               a               highly               intense               math               and               physics               based               major               which               takes               many               hours               of               studying;               however               a               high               paying               job               is               available               with               a               bachelor's               degree.

Computer               Science
               Computer               science               majors               are               needed               for               many               different               jobs               such               as               computer               programming,               web               site               design,               and               many               other               opportunities.

The               expected               growth               in               this               field               is               ranked               as               high,               many               individuals               are               making               their               living               off               designing               websites               or               working               as               a               programming               engineer.

This               major               will               give               you               the               opportunity               for               many               different               work               fields               including               working               from               home.

The               starting               salary               in               2006               was               around               $50,000               for               CS               majors               and               expected               to               grow.

Education
               Teachers               will               always               be               in               demand               no               matter               what               the               current               economic               situation               is.

Teachers               are               an               invaluable               resource               which               teaches               children               valuable               lessons.

Depending               on               the               district               teachers               can               make               very               good               salaries               while               maintaining               a               rewarding               job.

I               cannot               give               a               starting               salary               because               that               will               depend               on               the               district               and               wealth               of               the               community               they               are               serving.

Health               Care
               Health               care               is               a               fast               growing               career               field               that               offers               many               different               opportunities.

Health               care               majors               can               become               doctors               and               go               to               med               school               or               they               can               become               nurses.

There               are               many               different               career               fields,               most               of               which               will               be               in               demand               no               matter               what               the               economic               situation.

There               is               no               starting               salary               since               the               salaries               for               a               doctor               will               be               very               different               from               an               EMT.

This               is               a               great               field               to               go               in               if               you               want               to               help               others               and               have               great               job               security               with               a               high               paying               career               field.
